The Hat Had Other Plans

I
Well, that hat wasn’t going to stay on the table forever.
All day, it had been perched on a skull, looking fabulous among Ali’s pumpkins. But as evening arrived, its ribbons began to stir. Its feathers fluttered. Somewhere outside, a broom was waiting.
You don’t put that much effort into a hat just to leave it home on Halloween.
So off it went, taking a witch along for the ride. Past the treetops, through the clouds, and up where the moon could get a proper look at those flowers.
I do hope Cheri would approve. She taught us how to make the hats. Flying lessons were apparently included.
I’m grateful for friends who help me make things that set my imagination loose. Although next time, I might ask how to keep the finished project on the table.
Happy Halloween! If you happen to look up tonight, give her a wave. 🧙♀️🌕
